A Con Rail train carrying several hazardous materials derailed in The Town of Nelliston, New York on Thursday, January 14th, 1999.  A total of 31 cars derailed, including those carrying Liquified Propane and Styrene Monomers.  It was discovered that there was a leaking tank car of propane.  Approximately 200 residents were evacuated due to the chemicals involved.  By Saturday evening, all residents were
able to return to their homes.

 

On December 14th, 1998, a trailer containing 47,000 pounds of
Longhalr.wmf (25092 bytes)vinyl acetate became unhooked from its tractor on the Route 30A bridge between Fonda and Fultonville.  Luckily there wasn't  a leak and within 8 hours the tanker was unloaded and the bridge was reopened.
